Teklanika for Chamber Orchestra

Teklanika

Duration ~ 5:15

Program Notes:

Denali National Park’s immense hills and mountains appear to be cloaked in a lush green carpet, capped by stone and ice, with braided rivers at its feet. Hiking in its midst, the carpet is in fact a mosaic of thousands of bushes, flowers, and tundra plants. Underneath, its foundation has been uplifted and formed by fire and ice. The rocks, so oblivious to time, tell the story of Denali’s past. The vibrant colors, and the fossils within, reveal how and when the growing mountains were formed. This piece is about understanding how the past and present coexist geologically, as well as appreciating the tiniest details within the vastness of Denali’s landscape.
